There are various ways to arrive at your holiday accommodation. There is an International Airport just over an hour’s drive away at Toulouse. There is a navette (small bus) from Toulouse airport to the station every 15 minutes and a train to Cahors about every hour. Other nearby airports with cheap flights from the UK are Bergerac, Rodez and Brive.

The last section of the freeway from Paris to Cahors (marked in orange red on the map below) has been constructed, so you can now travel uninterrupted to Cahors on the excellent fast autoroutes.The vacation rental is about 6 hours drive from Paris (on the fast toll roads). There are trains to Cahors from Paris and to Agen from the UK. One of the advantages of the Lot is that it unlike the Dordogne and certain other places in France, even though there are lots of things to see and do, it is never heaving with tourists and the roads are always quite empty so you can consider a summer holiday here, without worrying about crowds.

There is also a freeway from Toulouse or Bordeaux to Montauban or Valence d'Agen where you can turn off to pick up the road to Lauzerte. If you are in Europe for more than 2 - 3 weeks it is much better to arrange to lease a car, rather than hire, which you must do before you leave your own non-EU country. When you choose a car, remember that the French generally drive tiny cars. There are several reasons for this; narrow medieval streets to negotiate, very small parking places and the high cost of fuel. Choose a diesel if you can as diesel is very much cheaper in Europe. Automatic cars are more difficult to hire, also For these reasons it may not be a good idea to accept a free upgrade, which you will be invariably offered.
